A God of War Remastered Collection Could Stand Out in One Way (2025)

As the God of War reboot series continues to ride the tidal waves created by its own success, its roots remain behind, wondering if they will ever be revisited. Unfortunately, attempting to take players back to God of War's earliest days might feel like a massive leap backward, as the classic series' gameplay might be a bit too dated at this point. Nevertheless, the possibility of a God of War remastered collection looms on the horizon, with the potential to bring players back to God of War's Stone Age.

The God of War remastered collection is currently only backed up by rumors, but if those rumors turn out to be true, it will need more than mere nostalgia to set it apart from the classic series — especially God of War 3 Remastered. That being said, it might shoot itself in the foot if it strays too far from the hack-and-slash gameplay of the original series, so it may need to find other ways to distinguish itself. One rather covert way it could set itself apart is by featuring new PlayStation trophies for players to collect, which would ultimately give them some extra objectives to fulfill and increase their playtime in the process.

A God of War Remastered Collection Would Presumably Feature Trophies for Each Game

If the God of War remastered collection rumors are true, it would presumably feature brand-new PlayStation trophies for players to collect as they progress through each game in the original series. The first two God of War games, God of War and God of War 2, eventually gave players PlayStation trophies to earn once the original remastered collection launched, but before that, trophies weren't implemented until the launch of the PlayStation 3 console. As such, the first two God of War games in a new God of War remastered collection would give players different tasks to complete than they had originally.

While God of War and God of War 2 in a new remastered collection would do well with brand-new trophies, the collection's version of God of War 3 should also include different trophies from its original PlayStation 3 and remastered version. Since it has now been 14 years since the release of God of War 3 and nearly a decade since its original remaster, surely enough time has passed to warrant new trophies, especially given the fact that it would potentially attract more newcomers. After all, those who have already played and completed the original God of War 3 may have also already obtained its PlayStation trophies and would therefore be left out of that portion of the gameplay following the collection's release.

It might seem like a small request, but including brand-new trophies for players to collect in a God of War remastered collection's iteration of God of War 3 might be just enough to freshen up the experience a bit more for returning players and offer newcomers a chance to dive deeper into its gameplay. At the very least, there is a justifiable expectation that the first two classic God of War games would feature new trophies for players to collect that weren't included in the original remastered collection. As such, players would then have plenty of fresh challenges to complete in each game either way.
