"One of the most powerful comic creations to come out of Scotland in recent years." - The Daily Record

"A video, is it? I'll tell you this, boy! You can stick your bloody video. Go away!"

Unchanged by stardom, Glasgow's worst dressed street philosopher emerges from his Govan council house to offer his views on work, women, politics and culture in three episodes from the outrageous BBC Television comedy series, Rab C. Nesbitt.

For four years, Nesbitt's piercing blasts of rhetoric language were sandwiched between twenty four other sketches in the award winning sketch show, Naked Video. In 1990, the self appointed spokesman for the scum of the earth became the lowest form of human life to receive his own television series.

Surrounded by his family and hounded by creditors, Nesbitt continues to vent his wrath on anyone who crosses paths with him and delights millions of viewers with his raw humour and biting insight.

Gregor Fisher stars as Rab with Elaine C. Smith as his long suffering wife, Mary, and Tony Roper as his closest friend, James Cotter.

Andrew Fairlie and Eric Cullen play The Nesbitts' awful sons, Gash and Burney.

"An anti hero for our time." - The Glasgow Herald

Trivia[]

  • Rab C. Nesbitt: Series One, Part One: Work, Rat and City of Culture was originally released as a single video by BBC Video in 1991 where the packaging for this Rab C. Nesbitt video release contained a white cover with the Rab C. Nesbitt logo in green, a black version of the 1988-1997 BBC corporate logo on the front of the cover and the bottom of the spine, the catalogue number (BBCV 4484) on the top of the spine and the 1991-1997 BBC Video logo on the video tape label with the video tape master containing the 1988-1991 BBC Video Ident.
  • Two years later in 1993, BBC Video re-released Work, Rat and City of Culture and Drink, Offski and Holiday (BBCV 4485) as a double video pack entitled The Complete Rab C. Nesbitt: Series One (BBCV 5136) and the packaging for the double video pack contained a blue and white cover with the borders in blue, the Rab C. Nesbitt logo in green and the rest of the cover in white with a white version of the 1988-1997 BBC corporate logo on the front of the cover and the top of the spine and a black version of the 1988-1997 BBC corporate logo on the back of the cover.
  • Despite this, the 1993 re-release remains completely unchanged from the original 1991 release, because it keeps the original 1991 video tape master and the 1988-1991 BBC Video Ident.
